What Collaboration Can Do For You, Part 2

As promised, here is Part 2 of Crissy Herron's post on Zibbet's blog. This one is on marketing and sales. In addition to her ideas, I have also made a lot of friends and learned a lot from the "Ning" networks I have joined. You can see them by clicking "Where I Hang Out". Another good sight for learning and sharing is "My Craft Corner". And I am sure there are many more that I have yet to stumble upon. If you have any sites that you frequent please share with the rest of us!

Here's Part 2 of Crissy's post:
When it comes to your business, collaboration can be a very good thing! Last week, I wrote Part 1 of this post, and it was full of tips on how to collaborate with others on blogging. If you haven’t read it yet, you can find it here.

This week, I will give you some ideas on how to collaborate with others on marketing and selling your product.

Swag Exchange - Partner with some friends (can be local or long-distance) and send them some business cards, flyers, stickers, buttons - whatever you use to promote your items.

When they send out their orders, have them include a piece of your swag, and in return, you will do the same for them. This will help you get your business in front of many new potential customers!

Sharing Space - You can share “space” physically and virtually. If you are taking part in a craft fair, consider sharing the table with a friend. This will cut your costs in half, and there will be someone to cover for you if you need to use the restroom, grab a bite to eat, etc.

When it comes to the internet, partner with a couple of friends and host a “virtual” craft fair. A domain will cost you under $10, hosting will be about $5 per month, and then you can set up a WordPress blog for free. You can put up pictures of your items with links to your Zibbet shop, so you don’t have to worry about setting up a shopping cart. This is just another way to promote your items and meet new customers!

Combination Sales - Partner with a friend who creates complementary items to create a “combination item.” For example, if you make earrings, partner with a friend who makes necklaces or bracelets and package up some of your items to be sold together. This will require a little extra effort in bookkeeping to make sure that each person is getting their shale of the sale, but the additional sales it creates could be worth it!

Create A New Product - Partner with a friend to create a whole new product! For example, you could work together to design a t-shirt or handbag. To create buzz and appeal, make this a limited edition item — where each of you have 10 of them to sell. By making the item and then splitting the quantity in two, with each person keeping the profits of the items they sell, there will be less bookkeeping headache.

What are your ideas on collaborating? I’d love to hear them!

What Collaboration Can Do For You - Part 1

I found the following article very helpful and decided to share it with all my "blogger" friends. It was written by Crissy Herron and posted on Zibbet's blog. I hope you find it as useful as I have. I will post "Part 2" next week.
Crissy Herron is the founder of Indie Biz Chicks, a website that provides business, marketing, and publicity info to “women who’d rather work for themselves, than work for the man.”

When it comes to your business, a little collaboration can go a looong way!

This week, I will give you some ideas on how to collaborate with others on blogging, and next week I’ll give you some marketing ideas. Okay - on with the blogging ideas!

Blog Meme - According to Wikipedia, the word “meme” stems from a Greek word meaning “something imitated.”

That’s a great way to describe a blog meme, as it’s a group of bloggers who all write about the same topic or theme. To do this, partner with a few different bloggers and decide on a weekly meme (you may want to brainstorm several of them in advance, so that you have time to think about what you want to write ahead of time.)

For example, let’s say that you have two friends, Sally and Sarah. Each of you write a post about your favorite brand of yarn. Once your post is written, you give each other the link. Then, you each update your blog posts with some info at the end letting the readers know they can read other posts on this topic, and then provide the link to your friends’ blog posts.

Ideally, this will help you increase your traffic as your friends’ readers will click on your post’s link and read your post.

Guest Blogging - Find some blogs that your target market reads and ask the owner if you can guest blog. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the very people you would like to do business with. Your post should not be a sales pitch - it should contain good, quality information. At the end, you can include a short bio with links to your site.

Blog Conversations - Would you like to find a way to attract readers AND more comments on your blog? Have a blog conversation with one of your business friends! For example, you and your friend can decide on a topic. Your friend will write her post, and then you will write a response post on your own blog. You can leave the URL in the comments section of your friend’s blog so that her readers can see your point of view. And be sure to include the URL of your friend’s post in your post so that your readers can read her thoughts on the subject.

You will find that not only will this be a good way to introduce your blog to new people, it is also a great way to create a conversation amongst your readers. They will want to leave a comment, expressing their thoughts on the subject, too.

There are many ways to partner up with people to promote each other’s blogs — these are just a few ideas! You are only limited by your imagination! If you have other ideas, please leave them in the comments section!

Catching Up…

Where have the days gone? There is a lot of catching up to do – where do I begin? If you’ve been here before then you have probably noticed that I have redesigned the blog. I don’t know if that is good or bad, but I like to change it up occasionally.

I updated to a premium account on Zibbet andE049-GoldenMossDrops-02 have sold two items there just this weekend! WOO-HOO!!!Amethyst Chic Bracelet

Zibbet is a very nice venue for selling art, crafts, supplies and vintage items. They have “top-notch” customer service. There are only 114 Premium Accounts left for $8/month – FOR LIFE!! And they have no listing or sales fees. It doesn’t get much better than that! Click here to get your premium account for this low price before they are all gone!

I participated in my first Craft Show of the year in Defiance OH in March. St. Mike's Craft Show - 3/20/10It was a busy show but not many buyers, at least not for me anyway. A small profit was made, however, and it was fun. Several potential buyers picked up my business card which could generate future sales.

I’ve been in a creative mood lately and have some new designs. I really like wirework and have started to do some simple pieces in wire. I designed these “Swirly Hearts” earrings in gold plated wire.

I will be adding a new line of earrings to my shop in the near future. It will be called “Create-A-Pair”. The idea came from Wig-Jig’s Interchangeable Bead earring designs that I received in their newsletter recently. The ear wires will be offered for sale separately and bead dangles or charms can be purchased to create a design of the customer’s choice. DSCN4746

They can also be worn without any interchangeable dangles as shown in the left picture. There will be both silver and gold plated wires for sale. Now I just have to get them all made and a supply of dangles created!
